"Galileo Arrival" (1983) - A huge lightning discharge greets NASA's Galileo atmosphere probe as it plunges into Jupiter's swirling water clouds amid the deepening Jovian twilight.
This painting (the original oil measures 48" x 60") accompanied the Sky and Telescope pre-launch Project Galileo article as the cover art, and also appeared in National Geographic and Popular Science. It was selected from countless memorable National Geographic images for inclusion in a major book celebrating the National Geographic Society's centennial—the only space art so honored.
